Open-Faced Tuna Melt:

A simple yet satisfying dish! Crispy toast, creamy tuna salad, and melted cheese come together in this classic comfort food.

Ingredients

For the Tuna Salad:

  • 1 can (150g) tuna, drained
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt for a lighter option)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 small celery stalk, finely chopped (optional, for crunch)
  • 1 tablespoon red onion, finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For the Sandwich:

  • 2 slices of bread (sourdough, whole wheat, or rye work well)
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar or Swiss cheese (or 2 slices)
  • 1 teaspoon butter or olive oil (for toasting)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley or chives (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tuna Salad:
    • In a bowl, mix tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, celery, red onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
    • Stir until well combined.
  2. Toast the Bread:
    • Heat a skillet over medium heat and butter one side of each bread slice.
    • Toast the bread for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Assemble the Tuna Melt:
    • Spread a generous layer of tuna salad over each slice of toasted bread.

  4. Melt the Cheese:
