Ingredients
For the Gnocchi:
- 500g (1 lb) potato gnocchi (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tablespoon salt (for boiling water)
For the Tomato & Basil Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (400g / 14 oz) crushed tomatoes (or 4 fresh tomatoes, diced)
- ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
- ½ cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Cook the Gnocchi:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add gnocchi and cook until they float to the surface (about 2-3 minutes).
- Drain and set aside.
- Prepare the Tomato & Basil Sauce:
- Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Sauté garlic for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add crushed tomatoes, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes (if using), and sugar.
- Let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in fresh basil leaves and remove from heat.
- Combine & Serve:
- Toss the cooked gnocchi into the tomato sauce and stir to coat evenly.
- Serve warm, topped with grated Parmesan and extra basil.
